FAQS
Q: I want to sign up for membership, what do I do?
A: Sign up if there are openings. We will then send you all of the necessary orientation details and set up a time to meet. If there are no available openings, fill out the waitlist form on our membership page and we’ll let you know when we have a spot available for you!
Q: Do you do outside firings?
A: We do not offer outside firings for non-members.
Q: How much do firings cost?
A: Firings are on a per-piece basis. We charge by weight and it is $1/pound/firing. Thus, if your mug weighs 1/2 pound, it would cost 50 cents to bisque fire and 50 cents to glaze fire. We ask that you pay your firing fees once a month.
Q: How long of a commitment do I have to make for membership?
A: Our memberships are month to month and they are automatically charged on your card each month from the day you sign up. However, we require 30 days notice for cancellation.
Q: What is your cancellation policy for membership?
A: When you decide to end your membership, please email us (info@themudroompdx.com). Once we receive your cancellation email, then your upcoming membership payment will be your final payment. Your membership will end 30 days after that final payment.
We do not retroactively cancel memberships. For example:
If your payment is set to go through on June 12th and you give notice anytime before this date, then your payment on June 12th will be your last and your membership will end 30 days later on July 12th.
If your payment is set to go through on June 12th and you reach out on June 18th, your next membership payment will go through on July 12th and your membership will end 30 days later on August 12th.
If you sign up on September 2nd and you only want to stay for one month, please let us know the day that you sign up, otherwise your card will get charged the following month and there is no refund. If we do need to refund you for some reason, there is a $15 processing fee for refunding membership.
Q: What is your cancellation policy for classes and workshops?
A: We offer full refunds (minus a $15 processing fee) if the class is canceled via email (info@themudroompdx.com) up to 2 weeks in advance. Unfortunately, if the class is canceled within 2 weeks of the start date, we are unable to offer a refund.
Q: What kind of clay is available at the studio?
A: We use Cone 6 clay from Georgies. We offer G-Mix 6, Dundee Red, White Salmon, Mazama Red, Pioneer Dark with Speckles and our house reclaim. Clay is $25/bag or $13/bag for reclaim.
Q: Can I bring in my own clay?
A: Yep! If you are a member, then you can bring in your own clay as long as it is Cone 6 clay, and you run it by us the first time. We just want to make sure nothing explodes in our kilns.
Q: Do I have to pay for glazes?
A: Nope! Glazes are covered by us.
Q: Can I bring my own glazes?
A: Yep! Feel free to bring in your own glazes. Just run them by us so that we can double-check that they are cone 6. Please store them on your shelf.
Q: What kind of glazes are available?
A: We have about 12 different glazes available for your use. A solid white, black, clear, and a variety of colors. We also offer 6 underglazes. If we don’t have your color of choice, you may feel free to bring in your own Cone 6 glazes.
Q: What cone do you fire to?
A: We fire to Cone 6.
Q: Can I come whenever I want?
A: If you have a monthly membership, then yes! You have 24/7 access to the studio. You will get your own unique code when you join, and you’ll be able to get into the space at your leisure.
Q: Can I bring my kids to the studio? What about my dog? What about my friend?
A: Unfortunately we don’t allow dogs or kids in the studio. If you are a member, please only come yourself. If you have a friend who is interested in joining, then we would love to meet them, please reach out via email and we can set up a tour! We also offer guest passes for $50/day if you would like someone to join you for a clay session!
Q: What if I have never done ceramics before?
A: Amazing! We love beginners. We ask that you take a class (or five!) before becoming a member, where you can learn the ins and outs of the studio and of ceramics. We have amazing teachers and offer incredible beginner’s classes. Check them out here.
Q: Do I have to have experience to be a member?
A: Yes, you do. In order to be a member you need: the ability to function in a studio safely, the know-how to clean up after yourself really well each time you are in the studio (which we will teach you during orientation), and you must know ceramics well enough to operate on your own. (But don’t get us wrong—we love to answer questions when we are around!) Please note that we are unable to accommodate production potters in our studio.
Q: Do you have private studios?
A: Because of the size of our studio, we unfortunately aren’t able to offer private studios at this point.
Q: Who do I contact if I am confused about something?
A: If you are in the studio, ask Lizzie, Cole, Adria, or Sarah if they are around. Otherwise, ask another member! Still have an unanswered question? Please email Adria at info@themudroompdx.com
