Kemper's new Pro-Line tools for trimming and sculpting pair knife-quality high-carbon steel, heat-treated and quenched in oil for maximum hardness and durability, with select hardwood handles immersed in oil resins to seal against water damage. Because high-carbon steel takes and holds a sharper, longer-lasting edge than stainless steel, these tools last much longer even when used with highly grogged clays and plaster.

Kemper recommends that these tools be kept clean and dry when not in use. Applying a light coat of oil to the blade and handle periodically will help prolong their lives. These tools can be resharpened if necessary. Kemper recommends either wet or dry whetstones. Power grinders should not be used, because the friction may generate enough heat to damage the temper of the blade.
