Welcome to Throwing Big & Stacked Forms--a two day throw down where you learn to go big on the wheel! Stacking forms in wheel throwing involves creating multiple pieces on the wheel that can be put together to form one cohesive structure. This technique is often used to build functional objects, like tiered vases and flower pots or decorative elements, like sculptural totems. Stacking forms can result in visually striking and structurally interesting pottery, offering endless possibilities for creativity in both functional and sculptural ceramics. 

Day One - Your teacher will take you through the basics of throwing bigger pieces on the wheel. We will use this day to create the individual forms that will later be incorporated into your desired final shape. 

Day Two - Our pieces will be leather-hard, the perfect consistency for stacking! By slipping and scoring, we will join our pieces together on the wheel. After stacking, we will refine the overall shape through smoothing seams, trimming, and throwing. 

After the workshop, we will fire and glaze your piece for you. Because ample drying time is necessary for larger, complex pieces, your pieces will be ready for pickup 6-8 weeks after the workshop. We will email you when your pieces are ready.

You should have some experience throwing and feel fairly comfortable centering on the wheel. Although we are focusing the lesson on throwing larger objects, you are not required to do so and are welcome to create smaller stacked forms.

Day One: Monday, December 2nd from 6-8:30 PM 

Day Two: Wednesday, December 4th from 6-8:30 PM 

Location: The Mud Room N (1831 N Killingsworth St). Please note the correct location, as we have two studios.

Danielle's teaching style follows the fundamental skills of wheel-throwing while pushing each individual towards achieving their own personal goals. She brings an open mind, friendly demeanor, enthusiasm, and an adaptable teaching style to her classes to meet students where they are. Danielle hopes to inspire creativity and foster community within her classes and believes that the most valuable pottery education comes from community studios much like The Mud Room.

Cancellation Policy: Please let us know 2 weeks in advance of your class if you’d like to cancel. If you cancel with fewer than 14 days left, unfortunately we cannot give a refund. If you have to miss class due to COVID we are not able to offer refunds or credits. If your teacher has to miss class due to COVID or otherwise, we will do our best to find a substitute teacher. If there is no substitute teacher available we will reschedule class for a later date.
