Kids Summer Camp
Kids Summer Camp
Give your kiddo their best week of summer in the studio, using their hands to explore their creativity! Each day will start off with a new project that encourages creative thinking, problem-solving, and self-expression. Students will have plenty of time to work on their projects with lots of one-on-one instruction. After a break for snacks, they’ll dive back into their projects, finishing the day with a little more creative time and clean-up.
This camp will explore several techniques: from pinch pot animals, to functional coil built mugs, to a day on the potter's wheel! Students will get hands-on assistance in bringing each unique project to life, and they will finish them off with a pop of color by underglaze painting their creations. With a small group of just six students and one teacher, your child will receive plenty of personalized attention and guidance. Our spacious, air-conditioned studio provides an ideal environment for your kiddo to explore, create and learn.
Once the camp ends, we’ll take care of firing and glazing the pieces with a clear glaze so they can be treasured in your home for years. Join us for a creative, supportive, and fun-filled week with clay!

A little about Melanie:
Melanie’s ceramic journey began in childhood, when her grandmother, an artist, introduced her to the world of clay by teaching her how to sculpt animals. This early exposure sparked a lifelong passion for ceramics. As Melanie grew, so did her dedication to the craft, and she began to pursue it more seriously. In college, she focused on creating teaware and honed her skills in atmospheric firings, including wood and soda firings.
For the past seven years after college, Melanie has been deeply involved in firing communities, leading wood and soda firings in the Portland area. Her expertise spans a wide range of ceramic techniques, including handbuilding, sculpture, wheel throwing, and more.
As a teacher, Melanie is patient, empathetic, and adaptable, tailoring her approach to suit students of all levels. She takes great joy in working with students to bring their creative ideas to life and showing them the endless possibilities that clay offers. With her passion and dedication, Melanie is committed to helping each student discover and nurture their artistic potential.
